THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL BY MILLIE WOOD-DOWNIE

Gem D’Souza‘s bright illustrations and designs are imbued with her love of performance, theatre, comedy and drag. So it was a perfect match when award-winning poet, performer and producer, Mille Wood-Downie, approached her to create the poster and promotional assets for her highly-anticipated debut one-woman show ‘There Was A Little Girl’.

In ‘There Was A Little Girl’, Millie explores the restrictions of gender stereotyping through dual characters Millie and alter-ego Michael, and the performance draws upon quest, drag and bingo in its journey to finding a new approach to gender discourse. Gem’s illustrated poster brings to life the paraphernalia, 90s/00s nostalgia, and iconic objects that contribute to key moments throughout the show in a colourful whirl of visual storytelling.
